DIY Bacolod Trip -- Commuting from the airport

Last April, my bestfriend Sandra and I went to Bacolod. Very much a DIY trip, we wanted to experience the real Bacolod. We were also on a budget. We're not big shots yet. ;)

There are several ways to get to Bacolod. You can go there by land, water or air. For our trip, we had bought promo tickets from Airphil. (Side note: Be on the lookout for those promo fares! They really do save you a lot!) If you're going by air, the plane will land at the airport in Silay City. Now, Silay is 1 city away from Bacolod City. To get to Bacolod from Silay, you have to pass through Talisay City first.

The airport at Silay is located in a relatively secluded area. Aside from the airport and it's accompanying pasalubong shops, there isn't much development in the area. It's still pretty much sugar land -- or formerly sugar land turned into subdivisions (that seems to be the trend there. hmmm.). Anyway, the point is, it's not exactly accessible to public transportation.

There are several ways to commute from the airport to Bacolod City:
  • Taxi -- around P400
  • SM or Robinsons shuttle -- around P100/head
  • Nyala Tours shuttle -- P35/head

We took the Nyala shuttle. At P35/head, it was way cheap! The catch though is that you have to wait a while for the shuttle to get full. We waited for about 30 minutes to an hour before the shuttle left, but if you're not in a hurry, this is a very affordable option for you.

Also, I'm not sure with the other hotels...I'm sure some have a free shuttle to and from the airport, but at Tamera Plaza Inn, where we stayed, you have to pay P500 for the shuttle.
